As part of a new program designed to assist the children of employees at hospitals owned by Tenet Healthcare Corporation, three local students were awarded college scholarships by Tenet Healthcare Foundation. The individual scholarships ranged from $1,000 to $2,000 dollars. Recipients were: Heather Sawyers of San Luis Obispo, James Schneider of Arroyo Grande and Charles Lindberg of Creston.
Miss Sawyers is the daughter of Jade Sawyers, an OB Tech in Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center's Mother/ Baby Unit. She will be attending California State University, Long Beach to study nursing. James Schneider, who will be attending the University of California, San Diego as a pre-med student, is the son of Beverly Schneider, who is a Respiratory Tech at Twin Cities Community Hospital. Charles Lindberg is the son of Mary Lindberg, an R.N. at Twin Cities. Charles plans to attend the University of California Santa Cruz in fall.
The Tenet Healthcare Foundation awarded $201,200 in scholarships to 154 students in various communities in which Tenet owns and operates hospitals. "Tenet strives to be a preferred employer for health care professionals, and helping our employees educate their children is one way we can try to do that," said Thomas B. Mackey, President of Tenet Healthcare Foundation. "The cost of higher education can be a major hardship for parents, and these scholarships can really help."
