Our Philosophy:  Non-Surgical Management First

At Twin Cities' Spine Center, our philosophy is to encourage conservative, non-surgical management before surgery is considered.  Our orthopedic surgeon, John Carr, MD, has experience and expertise in coordinating and overseeing comprehensive, conservative, non-surgical treatment for back pain and spinal conditions. Methods include:

Patient Specific Education

Each patient is unique, so each benefits from education that is specific to their condition.  Every patient receives information and education tailored to their particular condition and needs.

Physical Therapy

We work with physical therapists, exercise physiologists and certified athletic trainers to offer patients effective rehabilitation. Dr. Carr directs physical therapy to help patients achieve specific goals and parameters. Working with the qualified staff at San Luis Sports Therapy, the goal is to help patients achieve the highest level of function possible.

Interventional and Diagnostic Radiology

Advanced imaging and diagnostic technology, used by highly trained, experienced physicians, makes it possible to detect spinal conditions that may not be easily seen.  The Spine Center offers this combination of technology and skill to all patients.  Using advanced, real-time technology, Dr. Carr has capabilities to develop a specific diagnosis for each individual.

Pain Management

Patients may require some degree of pain management to improve their quality of life. We offer specific, controlled approaches through interventions with appropriate pain management experts

Maximizing Health, Wellness

At the Spine Center, we believe that prevention is the best medicine,  Dr, Carr may refer patients to a variety of practitioners to help patients maximize their health and wellness. Working with the sound, medically based programs at Athlon Health and Wellness,  Dr. Carr recommends patients who have completed a course of conservative care continue to act to reduce risk of future injury and to stay as healthy as possible.

Surgical Treatments

If surgery is necessary, the Spine Center offers advanced procedures that can, in some cases, be done minimally invasively.

Minimally Invasive Spinal Microsurgery for Cervical and Lumbar Spine

The Spine Center is pleased to be able to offer microsurgery to qualified candidates suffering from cervical or lumbar pain and dysfunction. Microsurgery, when done by skilled practitioners, can offer less risk of infection, faster recovery times and less pain during recovery. Many microsurgery procedures can now be performed in a state of the art outpatient setting at Posada Surgery Center allowing the patient access to the team of experts (physical therapy, nursing, pain management) Dr. Carr has brought together to achieve the highest level of satisfaction possible for patients suffering spinal dysfunction.

Advanced Surgical Techniques for Traditional Spinal Surgery

Our fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon offers advanced surgical techniques for patients needing spinal fusion or laminectomy. We use advanced technologies and highly skilled surgical teams to help each patient achieve optimal results.

Adult, Pediatric Scoliosis Care

During his Fellowship, Dr. Carr trained with surgeons skilled and experienced in addressing scoliosis.  He has used his skills to gain extensive experience in treating children and adults with scoliosis and other spinal deformities, offering surgical as well as non-surgical treatment.
