Classes, Tours & Support Groups
We know you want to be as prepared as possible for the birth of your baby and the care you’ll need to provide following his or her birth. That’s why we offer a wide array of classes and support groups led by experienced and friendly childbirth educators to help you feel ready for your baby’s arrival.
Prepared & Natural Childbirth: A series of four classes designed to teach expectant parents and childbirth coaches about the laboring process. Topics include natural childbirth techniques, pain management, Cesarean-sections and postpartum care. A tour of the Twin Cities Birth & Baby Center is included with this class. Please bring two pillows and a blanket. This class meets on Tuesday evenings. Click here for upcoming class dates.
Baby Care & Breastfeeding: This series of three classes covers breastfeeding, baby care and safety. You’ll receive practical information for a successful and rewarding breastfeeding experience, including: what to expect during your hospital stay, tips for ensuring a positive breastfeeding experience for mom and baby and assuring an adequate milk supply. New parents are also taught how to keep their newborns clean, safe and comfortable. Topics include newborn characteristics and development, feeding, bathing, diapering, accident prevention, car seat safety and sibling interaction. Partners are encouraged to attend. Solid Foods & Beyond: This class is for families with infants approaching six months of age and/or toddlers. Emphasis is on nutrition and the practical aspects of eating solid foods. Click here for upcoming class dates.
Grandparenting 101: Learn how to best support your children as they navigate the journey to becoming parents. In this fun, interactive class we will discuss everything from birth, breastfeeding and beyond. Find out what has changed since you had your children and understand the evidence that supports it. Bring your questions, sense of humor, and your enthusiasm for becoming a grandparent. Class includes a tour of the Birth & Baby Center and basic (non-certified) instruction on infant CPR and choking. Back to Work for the Breastfeeding Mother: This class offers support and education for returning to work and successfully continuing to breastfeed your child. Topics include: adjusting to the physical and emotional needs of returning to work, initiating pumping and introducing your baby to a bottle. There will also be time to discuss concerns and share stories. Click here for upcoming class dates.
Newborn & Parent Support Groups (NAPS): Join us for a casual, weekly support group for babies and parents – all are welcome! We’ll check weights, talk about your baby’s health and milestones and facilitate discussion among parents. A certified lactation consultant will also be available to answer questions. The group meets every Monday from 9:30am-10:30am in the 3rd Floor Waiting Room. No registration required.
Navigating Motherhood Support Group: Birth & Beyond: For new mothers experiencing the baby blues, or are having difficulty adjusting to motherhood, this support group is facilitated by a licensed clinical social worker. Topics include: teaching positive coping skills and strategies for successfully overcoming the new challenges of motherhood. Understanding the risk factors and symptoms of postpartum depression will also be addressed. Babies and support persons are welcome. This group meets every Thursday from 9:30am-11:00am in the 3rd Floor Waiting Room. No registration required.
Birth & Baby Center Tours: Expectant mothers and birthing coaches are invited to tour the Twin Cities Birth & Baby Center to familiarize themselves with our philosophy of family-centered birth. The tour includes information on general hospital policies, admitting processes, prenatal education programs and a sneak-peek at our labor, delivery and recovery suites.
