Breastfeeding Support & Information
Breastfeeding is a powerful bond between you and your baby. At Twin Cities Birth & Baby Center, we know this is important to you and offer breastfeeding support, including classes during pregnancy and lactation consultation for new moms. Find a Class
Each new mom and baby are visited daily by a lactation specialist while they are still in the hospital. These one-on-one visits are extremely important to establish breastfeeding early on and encourage a success breastfeeding experience at home.
Following discharge from the hospital, and whether you delivered at Twin Cities or elsewhere, Twin Cities offers outpatient lactation consultations. These consultations are done in a private, one-on-one meeting with a skilled, experienced lactation consultant. Together you can address any nursing problems or concerns.
A Spanish speaking lactation consultant is also available and will respond to messages left on the hotline in Spanish.

Baby-Friendly(R) Birth Facility
As a Baby-Friendly hospital, Twin Cities is committed to the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding
, as outlined by BFHI, and provides lactation consultants to offer breastfeeding mothers the information, confidence, and skills needed to successfully initiate and continue breastfeeding their babies. Other important practices of Baby-Friendly hospitals include encouraging skin-to-skin contact between mother and newborns and rooming-in. Both practices encourage bonding and improve the newborn’s ability to breastfeed. Studies also show that immediate skin-to-skin contact help newborns’ maintain their temperatures better, normalize heart and breathing rates and reduce their likeliness of crying.
